The exhausting journey and drugged sleep slipped away as time slowed down. It felt as though all my fears were peeled away as I watched the door latch unlock. I could feel my heart pound and the adrenaline hit my system. The whole universe narrowed down to this moment. Should I charge the door? Lead a revolt? I wasn't going to be enslaved, I would rather die first!
I looked around at my companions. Yes, they were poised on the balls of their feet too.
From behind me came a voice like a starting gun, "AEIEEEEAAAHHH".
The alien behind me took off like a bullet for the door. He got only four feet before he crumpled to the ground whimpering. I looked from him to the door expecting to see a gun, but realized he was grabbing the back of his neck, where the implant was. Now we knew what the surgery was intended for, I had been only seconds from that fate myself. ... and the door was still opening.
